For Sandy and Others
A few of the more than 50 varieties of Banksia, which belong to the Protea family.
Wendy - the Callistemon (bottlebrush) has much different leaves and a much softer flower (very like a bottlebrush that you would use for cleaning bottles)than the banksia, which has a flower generally made up curled or looped petals and is a very firm flower, almost wiry.
Oh so pretty Alice. I do love to see the natives. I was very impressed by the native plantings along the highway leaving Sydney airport (I've suddenly "lost" the name of the airport!!!) last time I was there. My Mum had some of these native plants at her new unit in Corlette (Port Stephens). Beautiful. Nice to hear the differences explained too.
I can remember visiting my aunt in Ca. and discovering the bottle brush tree, my aunt had in her yard. I was so impressed...bright red and it truly looked like a "bottle brush"......took tons of pictures of it.....
Isn't that the same as the bottle bush. They are everywhere around here.

ReplyDeleteKerri - I think it's still called 'Kingsford Smith Airport', although most people just refer to it as Sydney Airport.
