Yesterday I mentioned that we have been visited by an odd pair of Rosellas - one Eastern and one Crimson. They were back today and it would seem by their behaviour that they have actually become a pair. Interesting to speculate on what their babies may be like.
I have lightened the photos a little to shows the colours in their plumage to better effect. In both photos the Crimson Rosella is on the left and the Eastern Rosella on the right. (Please click on the photos for a better view.)

Luca is so adorable and I'm always in awe of his blond curls:-) The rosellas are such gorgeous birds and now with the lightened pictures, I can really see their colours. Beautiful!!

Luca is so cute, and it must be warm there now with him playing outside in the sand and water. I clicked on the pictures of the birda and the color is wonderful. I am at Lavender and Lace now, come visit when you can...Sharon Kay
ReplyDeleteMotherkitty - the little white bird is very tame, eats and drinks nothing and makes no mess. He is made of terracotta and is a fixture on the edge of the bird feeder.
ReplyDeleteLinda - if you have an open, hanging feeder like the ones in the photos I shouldn't think you would have any problem with mice and snakes.

Love that white Aussie sand! And the little towhead - precious! He has a head full of curls that some girls would really envy! What a cutie pie. Yep, I can see Grandma has lots of fun when he comes. Probably Grandpa too :)

How lovely to see the birds so clearly. We only seem to get the Lorikeets now, occasionally, & since we had our old wooden pergola replaced with a metal one, they dont come to mate anymore. We have only ever had one lonely Eastern Rosella come to visit, but dont have a feeer now.

ReplyDeleteHere in Florida, many MH parks or retirement villages don't allow bird feeders because the dropped seeds call rats and mice and they call snakes... I never had a problem anywhere else, so may just try it.. thanks
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful curls! I am always attracted to kids and adults with that kind of hair. Put off cutting them as long as possible. My youngest had curls like that until he was 2 when I cut them off - they never returned. Sob!

ReplyDeleteDo you have ANY ordinary gray looking birds in Australia? Every bird that has been shown always has such colorful feathers. You have such spectacular looking birds. It would be very interesting to see these two different birds get together...really...how much prettier can they get?
I would give anything to look out into my back yard and see such lovely birds.
Luca is adorable! Aren't grandchildren the best?!?!?! My three grandchildren from Bosnia are coming to my house for a visit next week. Can't wait to smother them with kisses and hugs. I am watching my youngest granddaughter, Laura, this eveing while her parents went out to dinner for her daddy's birthday. At the moment she is taking a nap. Laura is almost seven months old.
ReplyDeleteSandy (AIP) - yes indeed, we have grey ordinary looking birds too. Round here we have sparrows, blackbirds, grey wattle birds, black currawongs, black & white magpies and mudlarks, various wrens and honeyeaters. I'll try and get some photos of some of them for you.

ReplyDeleteI just finished the book The Road From Coorain, by Jill Ker Conway. Her descriptions of the landscapes of Australia were fascinating. Your birds reminded me of a statement she made regarding the absence of song-birds in Australia? Really? Well, you make up for it in colour!
