Queens Gardens, Townsville

Queens Gardens are yet another delightful spot in this Northern Queensland city.
1. Some trees just don't know when enough is enough.

2. This Pandanus Palm is not being propped up by poles, as I thought at first glance. They are roots growing in reverse - shoot from the trunk and then grow down and embed themselves in the earth.

3.

4. The endless variety of flora is inspiring, even to the tree-smothering creepers.

5.

6. Massive fig tree literally raining aerial roots.

7.

8.

9.

10. Up the garden path to Castle Hill.

11.

12. The welcoming shade.

Lovely photos. It's wonderful to see shots of something warm and sultry on such a chilly day here in New England.

Aaaah, memories. So many - from childhood, recent years. Queen's Gardens has come in and out of my life over more than 50 years. Homesick!

Those first two trees are simply amazing...I've never seen anything like them.

You seem to go to such beautiful picturesque places.

I recall my last visit to your beautiful city of Canberra.... and mostly I remember the mountain that stood there starkly and proudly. It intrigued me..... in a 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' sort of way. Christopher would'nt let me get close in case I mysteriously disappeared lol. There is a fort or castle I think.... is that right? I remember some of it sticking out the side of the mountain. Those gardens are gorgeous Alice.... I bet you spent hours and hours walking around and enjoying it's beauty. Lovely post.

Gosh, everything is bigger and better in QLD, isn't it? At least the plants seem to be.
Photo 10 makes me think of a pharaoh's tomb. What an impressive hill, and such a wonderful view with the gardens leading toward it!
I love seeing all the tropical plants. Those fan shaped palms are so pretty and what a color!
Amazing flora Alice. Thank you!!!
