No, my garden doesn't look like this at the moment. These photos were taken in the Spring 2005. It looked much like this last Spring too, but since then I've had 10 months of not being very interested in gardening at all. I'm not sure whether it was the discouragement of the drought, or what it was.
However, I spent several hours today in the garden - cutting back some things and pulling other things out altogether, dividing and planting some things, and just enjoying pulling weeds from lovely damp soil, and wondering "could it possibly stay like this all through summer?"
No, of course it won't, but hopefully we'll have a good Spring which is only 3 weeks away. And the best part of all is that I'm really looking forward to getting out in the garden again tomorrow. It's still too early to cut back a lot of plants even though they look scrappy and frostbitten, but they need that top covering to protect the roots. Still, there's plenty of other things to do. Sooooo - look out garden, HERE I COME !!!
Hi Alice,
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to meet you. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and your very kind comment.
Your pictures are just stunning. I love flower gardens and wish I had more of a green thumb. I try, but sadly I have never had a garden like yours (I dream of gardens like yours!).
I know you say it isn't looking well right now, but that's the beauty of God's creation. It is always made new again. I'm sure you will have a lovely garden this year. I can't wait to see it!!
Alice, I saw these photos, and was getting all ready to write a very jealous comment, thinking how fresh your garden was looking, despite the drought.
ReplyDeleteIt IS very discouraging, trying to keep even a halfway decent garden going with no water. I guess all we can do is hope and pray for some RAIN!!!
Liar! Liar! Pants on fire! NOT interested in gardening the last 10 months??? Somehow I find that hard to believe!
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting that its winter their...it's always good to lift the spirits with pictures of flowers in the winter time...and soon, I'm sure your garden will look like that again.....lovely....
ReplyDeleteWoow! It looked just great your Spring garden in 2005. I'm sure the coming Spring it will certainly look quite similar. Perhaps with some other and new flowers?? I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of Spring and summer gardens whilst we'll have autumn and winter!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good time and greetings from rainy Switzerland.
Barbara
I'm laughing at Val's comment :) It's SO good to see pictures of your beautiful gardens again Alice, even if it's not this year's photos. I've missed seeing your lovely flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief to know you're finally getting your interest back. I was beginning to despair that you'd never feel that wonderful enthusiasum for gardening again.
Isn't it great when you're on a roll? We had an overcast and less humid day yesterday (at least until late afternoon when it became muggy again) and I got lots done in the garden. I don't want any interruptions when I'm on a roll!! But of course, there are always some.
I hope you get just the right amount of rain. Oh, wouldn't it be lov-er-ly?
Happy gardening!!
Oh how beautiful your garden looked and I've no doubt with your renewed interest it will look like that again:-) A lot of my flowers are now finished for the year and I'm already planning ahead to next year, what I want to move and what I want to remove! xox
ReplyDeleteWow, your garden looked amazing ... and I am sure it will look amazing again, come Spring ! There has been some rain (I think you have had some too ... hopefully), so that should encourage everything to grow nicely. All those flowers ... sigh. All I manage to grow well is weeds !!
ReplyDeleteTake care, Meow
No matter the year, lovely flowers are lovely flowers!

Wow, 2005 garden pictures. That is when I first found you, through those beautiful pictures. Has it been almost 2 years already?
ReplyDeleteMy youngest daughter is heading your way in a few weeks, a tour trip to Fiji, New Zealand, Australia. She is very excited about it!
Have a great time this weekend playing in the yard!
