A visit to a local park on Sunday morning was enjoyed by grandchildren and grandparents alike. The simplest things can entertain children for hours - a wonderful thing to behold.
Water is always a great attraction for all ages.
"Now, what do we have here on this tree?"
A cicada. The noise of hundreds of these insects in the trees in the park was almost deafening. They make a noise similar to a cricket.
Adult cicadas emerge from capsules which are often left on tree trunks and branches....
.... where they can be collected by children and put to ...
.... decorative uses!
But some prefer to talk to a caterpillar on a stick.
Fun!!!
Great pictures - looks like you all had a fabulous time. Wish I were there.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else mentioned that Blogger is now truly horrible to people who are not with Blogger? It's just awful - and one reason I don't comment much anymore.
Anyway, rant is over now.
A growing delight indeed Alice! These are such precious, happy photos of those adorable kids! Looks like you all had a wonderful time. Isn't it the most wonderous thing watching children play and discover. You're right...everyone should have grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteMy brother and I used to get up at 5AM, take a shoe box, and go off to collect cicadas. They came in all shapes and sizes. It was such fun. We never thought to do that with their shells though. How funny :) Thanks for stirring the memories.
I sure wish we lived closer to our 2 little boys!
..and I KNOW that the kids had a fantastic time too!!!! REALLY!!!
ReplyDeleteShelly - mother of those 3 strange kids!!
Those are not strange kids, Shelly!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! Obviously they had fun, & the trade off is the delight they bring grands!
Cicada T-shirt ornaments! Just when I thought I'd seen it all . . . looks like everyone had lots of fun.
