It's summer time in Australia, and with it comes cricket. No, not a black shiny insect, but a sport played by more men than women, in teams of 11 players usually dressed in white. If you are unfamiliar with this sport, then let me explain :-
Cricket is quite simple. You have two sides, ours and theirs, one out in the field, and one in. Each man in the side that's in, goes out, and when he is out, he comes in, and the next man goes in, until he is out. Then, when they have all been in, and are all out, the side that's been in the field, comes in, and the side that's been in goes out, and tries to get out, those coming in. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. Then, when both sides have been in and out, including not outs, that's the end of the game. It's really very simple.
LOVE IT!! Makes perfect sense. What a great explanation - though do think you ought to mention the ducks, and spins, and sticky wickets, yorkers and googlys, silly points and deep fine legs??
ReplyDeleteYou are obviously missing it over there in cold, wet Belgium.
ReplyDeleteI say we all dance the oaky coaky ! You put your left arm in, your left arm out, in, out, in, out and shake it all about. Please tell me you've heard of this dance or l'll sound like a fool Alice-lol
ReplyDeleteCricket- a bit like the Oaky Coaky ;)
Hope you're keeping well
xx
Makes perfect sense to me, but then I am English. And when that gets boring - we stop for tea, of course!
ReplyDeleteWho's on first?
ReplyDeleteUh huh! Yep, got it! I'm 'stumped' for words Alice! I'll just go drink a cup of tea and reflect on why I never wanted to play cricket! Although it does sound interesting (not):)
ReplyDeleteHokey Pokey - finally remembered the right words-lol
ReplyDeleteBefore my son got me (American born living in Australia 33 years) interested in cricket last summer, I would have thought "Yeah, typical silly cricket stuff". But now I know just enough about cricket to nod my head and think "Yeah, that's just about what it's all about". And that's the last phrase in the Hokey Pokey song!
