After a little shopping across the border in Queanbeyan (NSW) this morning we paid a visit to the Australian National Botanic Gardens. After a delicious lunch (grilled lamb with winter vegetable casserole) we spent an hour in the gardens. One needs much longer than that to see these interesting gardens that contain around 7,000 of the 17,500 species of plants which occur naturally in Australia. Since I took too many photos for one posting, I thought I'd start with trees, since you know how much I love trees.
The lovely papery bark of the Melaleuca.
Eucalypts
Couldn't resist snapping this Crimson Rosella

I do love trees too (and there will also be a post in due time) and therefore I like your post very much (...and the link you gave). Thank you. Have a nice week!

Oh what a tease you are! I'm looking at those winding paths through the gum trees with longing...and feeling very nostalgic. Wish I could smell the Aussie bush and hear all the bird and insect sounds. I clicked the link and had a quick look, but must go back later to read and see more.
That's a wonderful picture of the rosella, as are all your beautiful tree photos too.
Thanks for taking us along Alice :)
Glad you had such a nice trip.
The National Botanic Gardens - that'll be a must see for me when I finally get to Canberra.
I feel for Kerri when she writes how nostalgic these trees make her feel. I think that is what would make me the most homesick too, the look, smell and feel of the Australian trees.
What lovely Monday you've had. The trees are all magnificent. I love the blue sky and the brightly coloured bird too.

Lovely pics.
Such interesting looking trees that I don't see over here! The only time I saw trees not native to my country was when I went to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens near Toronto last summer. They had many trees from various countries and it really was very fascinating to see the difference in the bark and leaves!! xox
That would certainly be a place we'd love to visit. Truly beautiful.
p.s. thanks for the comments over at mine Alice. Etsy has been very slow for me, certainly just a wee hobby.
They have the best tree for climbing at the Botanical Gardens. Naturally you are not permitted to do so!!!!
Hi Alice ~~ I, too, love trees
especially the beautiful eucalypts
Thank you for sharing these photos with us. They are beautiful. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Take care,
Love, Merle.
They're great looking trees too, Alice. I'm a little biased but I think that Aussie trees have so much more going for them - the eucalpyts are so varied and insanely beautiful and who can pass up the opportunity to tear a sheet of paperbark off a melaleuca.
I'm looking forward to seeing the next instalment.
