Canberra Week is held in March each year and one of the attractions is the hot air balloons. The cooler mornings are perfect for a 6.30am lift off, with anything up to 50 balloons all firing up on the lawns near Lake Burley Griffin. The two in the photos drifted by our place this morning, to the accompaniment of many barking dogs.
... and down.

A fantastic sequence of photos, Alice. And I'm starting to feel "at home" on your veranda!
I know what you mean about the barking dogs, I'm sure they get upset by that spooky whooshing noise of the gas jets being activated.
What a lovely morning treat. Hot air balloons are so pretty.
A&T took the boys to a balloon day last summer and took loads of photos. You should've seen all the shapes and sizes. There was even a brightly coloured barn, complete with a cow, pig and chicken peeking out windows, plus a farmer at the barn door. I'll have to send a pic to you.
You always find something interesting to share with us. Thank you!
That is pretty cool. I always wanted to go from a trip on one of those hot air balloons. Lucky you for having a view from your porch.
What a spectacle, and from your very own garden! These pictures are a real delight :)
Great balloon pictures! And to think you didn't have to leave your porch. That is something we would never see floating by our house.
Beautiful garden, beautiful porch, beautiful sunset and beautiful sight of the balloons.... you live in your own little heaven!
Wow, that looks close....i would love to see one up close, but i'll pass on flying on one....i'm not to fond of planes......lol
