"What a Difference a Day Makes" or "Five Months and a Little Rain"!

Last Wednesday we drove from Canberra to Wangaratta and home again on Thursday. This is the same trip that we did at New Year, but what a change of scenery then and now. Below are eight photos taken from the Mt Parnassas Lookout above Gundagai - four taken at New Year and four taken on Thursday. I'm sure you'll agree that the difference is remarkable and very pleasing.
However, don't for one moment think that the drought is over. There has been enough rain to green the grass, put a little water in the dams and wash off the dust. Winter has arrived and it's now too cold for there to be any growth to the grass, and I fear that much of the real pasture has died out only to be replaced by weeds.
Nevertheless, it was such a pleasant change to see this hope of better times to come.

It's amazing the difference in the countryside, isn't it. We noticed it a few weeks ago when we drove to Bonnie Doon ... everything was greeen and damp again ... lovely. Let's pray it continues to rain regularly.
Take care, Meow

Alice, how wonderful to see your photos with such wonderful news. Thank you. I was through that same area at Christmas - as well as a side trip to Burrinjuck Dam - and saw and wondered and thought. How wonderful to see such a thorough greenness now clothing such beautiful country.

Yes you're right - a bit of rain does make a difference and isn't it nice to see green again. But we do need rain - so much more rain than we have had.

This is a fabulous set of photos, thank you for taking the time to get the same views, and posting them. It does make the heart sing, and hope there is still of bit of growth lurking there.

How lovely to see it the way it should be. Now if only we can get more rain!

Wow! - How clever to think of this.. When I look at the first and then the second, it feels almost 'soothing to the heart'. Beautiful.

It's amazing how quickly it changes. And it's funny how no matter how hard one tries (unless you have the photos to look at) one can barely remember what it looked like when it was sooooooo dry, and vice versa.

There's such a contrast between the first batch of photos and the second! It'a truly amazing what a bit of rain can do. The countryside is beautiful cloaked in green.
Thanks for taking the time to capture the same images again and show us the comparisons.
It must've made you feel so much better seeing the lovely green fields, even though much more rain is needed.
You'd love our countryside here at the moment too. Everything is beautifully green!

What a difference in your before and after pictures. Your before pictures remind me of our last vacation to California (very dry).

We are currently in a draught too. We went from quite a bit of rain to nothing. Today we had a 5 minute shower and lots of threatening looking clouds. Some big old trees are dying and it's really a shame. They were damaged by a late freeze and finished off by the draught.

Gosh, doesn't everything look so much greener and fresher?

We need so much more rain, though, don't we? I am hoping we get some this week (crosses fingers tightly)
