A Better Job

Following my narrow escape from a boring database job on Friday, I have acquired a new job that sounds perfect. Please note the following POSITIVE aspects of my new job:

1. I don't have to get up early to go to work.

2. I can wear what I like, the older the better.

3. I can work whatever hours I want.

4. I can take as many teabreaks as I like - I can even sit outside in the sunshine during my teabreaks.

5. No-one will tell me to do it their way instead of mine.

6. It offers great scope for creativity.

7. It also provides plenty of exercise.

There are a few NEGATIVES though:

1. Not only will I not get paid, it will actually cost me money.

2. Other members of the family will no doubt offer their opinions when I've finished the job, and they may well be less-than-positive.

3. And lastly, I won't get a proper sleep until I've finished this job!

So, what am I doing? I'm painting my bedroom!!!!!!

This was brought about by our waterbed springing a leak, and since it was now 18 years old and the second leak this year, we decided to buy a new bladder for the bed. After syphoning 550 litres of water out of the bed, and the new bladder won't be here for a few days, Richard suggested that I might like to paint the walls now that we can actually move the bed. You try lifting 550 litres of water and all the associated woodwork and you will see why the bed doesn't get moved very often.

Tomorrow I'll try and remember to take some 'before' photos so we can compare them with the 'after' photos.

WATERBED!!! I would have never suspected! I hope you have put all that water to good use...and that you have finished painting by Thursday...

But gee, I think I'd rather go out to work than paint a room. When the Man Who Cooks starts painting a room, I try to get out of the house as much as possible. He's a real perfectionist and takes forever. So Richard dobbed you in, huh? Is he at least providing afternoon tea?

Alice, you sleep in a waterbed?! How hip, how young and funky! I feel staid and boring with a sedate old slat bed!

I love your list of great job attributes....sounds like just the job for you! If you get all paint-speckled, can you please post a photo so we can giggle at you? ;)

Yes, Val, the roses got well and truly watered on Friday.

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen Richard paint a room. It's always been Shelly and I that do the painting. Now she's not here I have to do it on my own, but that's fine by me.

Jelly, I'm not sure about young and funky but at least it doesn't make my back ache in the early hours of the morning. I'll try and get paint-speckled just for you.

We once rented a house from a young chap, who bought it as an investment.
The previous owners had had a waterbed, & the young chap was very apologetic to us, because the carpet only went around the edges of the bedroom! There were bare boards where the waterbed had been!
New owner said he felt ripped off!

Good luck with your painting.

Hi Alice,

I knew that first list sounded too good to be true. ;-)

Have you decided what colour you're gonna put on the walls?

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I'll come again!

I see you found something to keep you busy and alleviate the boredom!
I'm giggling at Val and Jelly's comments :) I'd definitely call you mature and groovy Alice!
It's so nice of Richard to find jobs for you (that he doesn't want to do himself). LOL

Good for you! (I think!) Very clever, you are!

Very nice pictures above of your husband and daughter!

Thanks for a good laugh!

I'll be painting our bedroom, too, in a week or so while DH is gone (he hates the smell of paint)...you'll have to post pictures so it will motivate me!

Alice - yes please, I cannot wait to see the photos of before/after paint job - and how funny, I have just decided to paint the walls in our lounge-room, only waiting for it to get a bit cooler.

I am going to start one wall at a time, just moving the furniture in from the wall a bit at a time, I expect it's going to take a LONG time to do the whole room.

What colour are you choosing? I am thinking of a new dulux colour called mudpack.

I don't think I could climb out of a waterbed, how do you manage it?
