Birthday Treat

I would have quite happily stayed home and bottled more apricots, although goodness knows we are nearly awash with them!

However, Richard would have none of it, saying "Come on, it's your birthday and we're going out," with little idea of what we were actually going to do.

So, into the city we went (such city that Canberra actually has). We wandered the shops, even though I dislike shopping, but I bought a copy of Handel's 'Messiah' (although it lacks a certain tenor, Susan and Kerri...lol), a boxed set of 3 Yvonne Kenny CDs and a new handbag (well, it wouldn't be an old one, would it?).

After lunch we went to the movies. We saw 'The Golden Compass'. Have you ever watched a movie and quite enjoyed it but had no idea what it was about? It didn't help that I slept through the first 20 minutes or so. I enjoyed many of the characters, both animal and human(?), and many of the special effects, but when movies become even slighty supernatural, I'm lost. I've never seen a Harry Potter movie that I understood, even with the added dialogue and instruction provided by my grandchildren.

So, it's been a fun day. Now what will I cook for dinner? Did someone say - apricots???

Happy Birthday Alice!

I so identified with your trip to the movies. I go along to see those movies even though I don't have a clue, sleep through parts, but do enjoy getting out of the house, and of course the popcorn!

It sounds like you had a good day! I hope you have a great new year as well.

I'm glad you got out of the house away from the apricots for a few hours Miss Birthday Girl :)
I haven't heard of Yvonne Kenny before. Will have to check her out. What, a Handel's Messiah without 'The Boy'!?? Well, I suppose there are none left of his to buy that you don't already have...LOL
Yes, to your question about movies, and it's not only the sci fi ones..sometimes I get lost in others too :)
I got a new handbag for Christmas! (chuckling about the 'new'...my girls love to shop at the 'used' stores)
I'm glad your dear hubby took you out of the house away from the apricots, and that you had a fun day. Don't forget to lob some of that delicious fruit over here. We'll get ready to duck :)
Happy happy birthday...and many more.
xoxo

Why am I not surprised you are a Capricorn? Our Birthdays are just 7 days apart!

An extraordinary number of my good female friends are Capricorns, while a similar number of my male friends are Leos! There must be something in that.

I wish you a wonderful year of good health, joyful surprises, and lots of love.

P.S. I am another who gets lost in a lot of the modern movies, much to the angst of my husband!

Hello Dear Frances......

Realising our time difference, I’m even later with my birthday greeting to you..... Happy Birthday dear friend, may the year ahead be filled with many Blessings, good health and much happiness.

So pleased to read that Tanya and Sara were home for Christmas and what a gorgeous quilt Tanya has made made, she inherits your quilting skills. The colours are just beautiful and well co-ordinated with your bedroom.

Frances, what a treat to see your lovely pictures..... a delightful reminder of the warmer, sunnier days we are longing for in the northern hemisphere.

Christopher has just returned to Switzerland after spending 12 wonderful days with us. So.... in getting back to normal, I thought I ought to check out what birthdays I have noted this month and saw yours was yesterday!!!!! So here I am rushing a greeting to you from John and me.

Sun kissed Apricots... what a dream! how wonderful!!! Like Kerri says, lob a few in our direction, they would be most welcome on this bitterly cold morning..... it is just getting light here and I notice as I look through my window, there has been a covering of snow during the night.

Thank you for your friendship, it enriches my life. With Love - Marion

Happy Birthday. Glad you had a day out, & at least the theatre would be airconditioned, which would be my main concern! LOL.
I am not one for those fantasy movies either!

You mention of handbag, reminded me of the Bride-recently deceased.
Groom told us they found 15, brand new never used handbags stashed away!! I guess we all have our little collections of something!

Dear Alice ~~ Sorry I am really late wishing you a very Happy Birthday.
It sounded nie to get out with your husband and see a movie. Like the others, I find it hard to follow some movies and do not fo to any sci- fi or Harry Potter ones. I prefer real life stories or a good commedy.
Take care and I hope your year is going well so far. Love, Merle.
