Anyone for sand castles, mud pies, or just getting down and dirty?

They say that 'every Aussie bloke needs a shed'. Well, sometimes they have to build it first. Or even dig out what looks like tons of rock and dirt in order to make a shed. WHEN these excavations are finished, including walls built and floor paved, it will become a shed for gardening equipment, eg. mower, mulcher, barrows, etc. Also shelving and a potting bench on the northern side, and there must be room for a couple of chairs and a little table as it's the coolest place I know on a hot day. There is also access to storage areas under the house from here . THEN, when all that's done we may be able to put the cars in the garage for the first time in years instead of leaving them in the carport at the front.

Fugitive scurrying away from the camera.

The inevitable result, all sifted into various grades.

It just wouldn't be home without a few dirt heaps! Grrrr.

My, you have one industrious husband there Alice! I can see the methodical school teacher personality showing in his activities (dirt piles sifted into various grades). How does he do that? You certainly have a lot of room under the porch. How convenient that will be...and a lovely cool place to escape the heat. Give Richard a pat on the back for me please :)

Yes, a huge project, I guess the cooler weather there has inspired you, very industrious! Is it just you and your husband doing this, or do you have help? Lots of dirt for flower beds, I guess.

I am jealous! Can I borrow your hubby for some projects I have going and can I have your extra dirt??? LOL

Can I borrow him after Peggy? LOL
How exciting though, to be able to put your cars away. It's the little things that mean the most :) I have the same problem...a big shed, but no room to put my car, which is why it has hail damage!

What a great shed that will make -- it looks huge. Please send Richard here for just one month. My husband is wonderful, BUT he has no carpentry skills. You are so lucky that he is skilled and enjoys doing gardening projects.

Your shed is going to be very large indeed and is your husband doing all the digging?

I see that this project has also created another...the support posts on the deck.

It's going to be great.

My first husband once dug a basement as a winter project and had to carry the dirt in 5 gallon buckets thru the kitchen and out. It was an immense project...and thank God for our wonderful husbands.

Yay! This will be great when it is finished. You are always so busy around your house, I think that one day you will run out of things to do! I can hear you say 'Never!'. It must keep hubby busy and out of any trouble anyway!

All Australian girls need a shed, Alice! It looks wonderful. And huge. Big enough to get lost in? Blessings and bliss.

Oh I dare not show this to the man who cooks. A downside of our house and garden is that there is no practical place for a shed. So he has to make do with a section of the rumpus. That area you have is a real luxury. The man who cooks DOES have a wine cellar under the house though.

Dear Richard and Alice, you guys are amazing. WOW & WOW again, how great will this be, when it's done. I am glad that I'll be able to watch it happening from this distance and off a computer screen, because I am so over OUR house and garden reno's at the moment, with all that is going on around here...
I shouldn't complain, but I think i need a little holiday :)
