Who Needs a Motor Mechanic???

I told Richard that I saved sooooo much money today, to which he asked "So, what did you buy?" No, I didn't buy anything apart from a few groceries. For months I have been concerned about some frequent, but irregular noises made by the car. Nearly every time I drove over a slight bump in the road I would hear a sort of 'hollow thump' (I seem to spend my life describing strange noises to motor mechanics who obviously have a different hearing range to me).

I had almost reached the stage of booking the car in so that the shock absorbers and anything else I could think of could be checked. I steadfastly refused to dwell on how much this exploration/replacement might cost. But, this morning I solved the problem and it didn't cost one cent.

I took the rolled up umbrella off the shelf near the back window. No more rattles or 'hollow thumps'.

Oh, sometimes I am so clever I almost frighten myself!!!!.....LOL

Lol oh Alice, I love it!! You certainly are a clever one aren't you! lol Ok, now I need you to come look at my car, because I have a strange rattle coming from the back of the car!! Maybe I should look first, though, and see if I have an umbrella in the trunk somewhere! lol

hee hee heeeeeee! That is very funny, and sounds just like something I would do. Except, I would have ended up having the mechanic take the umbrella away!

The mechanic wouldn't have found it either, Alice. Instead they would have charged you for some maintenance job that had to be done and obviously the replacement parts to fix said "hollow thump".

That's a great happy ending. Sometimes the simplest explanations are the best.

Not only glamorous, but clever too. Wow! Yes, this is definitely a 'blond' thing! Hilarious! :) Alice has now added another 'hat'.... Mechanic...or would that be detective? Maybe both. Brilliant!
I'm glad you held off on taking the car to be looked at :)

Alice, could you come do a few "fixes" for me too lol... There is this awful sound late at night coming from beside me in the bed, and it keeps waking me up...lol Oh hang on, if I remove my husband, maybe it will go away?
You are wonderful Alice. The seedlings we are planting are water saving paper daisies. I am trying to teach my kids about gardening and saving water at the same time. Much love xox.

Your new photo does make you look like an executive - but who knew you were the President of the Alice Auto Repair company? Thanks for the funny and honest story.

So can you now come and fix the strange noises I have coming from my car. It can't be the children, they have all been too sick and Milly doesn't make much noise...lol. Well done - I hope Richard took you out to dinner as a thank you.

I had exactly the same thing happen in thick fog at midnight last night in my new (second hand) car. Very strange noise coming from the back. Very worried. More investigation....ahh the back windscreen wipers were accidently turned on.....Drrrr

Oh dear Alice - I know that 'hollow thump' noise, it happens when I do a left turn at a certain angle - and I DONT have a rolled up umbrella or anything else on the shelf. I am ignoring it for the time being, it sounds too serious for me to investigate just yet.

If you would have taken the car into a mechanic I'm sure it would have cost you a bundle for him to tell you that he couldn't find the problem with your engine.

You are so smart to have investigated it yourself...You saved youself a bundle. *LOL*
